The Upper Ottawa Valley Heritage Centre is holding a music event at the museum on Sunday, December 10th, 2023. Tickets are $10 and will be available for purchase at the museum (1032 Pembroke St. E). Doors open at 1:30pm and light refreshments (tea and coffee) will be available.
The duo hail originally from Caithness in the far north of Scotland. First meeting in the mid 80s when the highlands of Scotland became twinned with Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, the two subsequently visited the island on a 3-week tour. Karen’s music has been strongly influenced by the driving rhythmic fiddle style of Cape Breton ever since, while Alastair’s musical career has focused on playing for ceilidh dancing and in the accordion & fiddle club scene with various line-ups.
Now Canada based, Alastair has been immersed in the Ottawa Valley music scene in recent years while Karen has focused on album releases for charity, composing and online teaching. The two have collaborated on various music projects, with Alastair providing sound engineering support to Karen and assisting her with a Covid book publishing project. Their recent Scottish tour saw them perform 5 concerts as well as play for 2 highland dance choreography workshops. Looking to 2024, the duo have plans to again be in the north of Scotland, combining music performances with family & friends visits. They love to bring their brand of lively, instrumental music to interested listeners.
